On Thursday, April 6, the Trump administration launched 60 Cruise Tomahawk missiles from its offshore Mediterranean warships at Syria’s al-Sshayrat military airfield near Homs, Syria’s third largest city. The U.S. strikes obliterated substantial portions of Syria’s military capacity there. Trump’s action came a day after Democrat Hillary Clinton urged the U.S. bombing of Syria.
Neither Trump nor any other U.S. government agency presented a shed of proof that the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad used sarin nerve gas in its bombing of ISIS, Al Qaida or any other “rebel” groups in Syria’s Idlib province. President Assad denied using sarin gas while “Russia’s defense ministry” according to the UK-based Guardian, has stated that the chemicals were release when a Syria bombed a “rebel” arm storage facility.Read more
This week, U.S. Mainstream Media across the spectrum ran a story that Trump is going to shift more of the drone operations to CIA control. Seems like an odd choice given that he has a noticeably bad relationship with the CIA, but I guess that could mean is his decision is just a cynical manipulation. This was at one time a point of contention. Who is responsible for the drone program? Under a great deal of political/popular pressure, Obama promised to take the CIA out of the loop – basically to give the appearance of doing something. But I doubt if he could have done more then shift the balance a little. Now, perhaps Trump has done something to shift it back. But, as David Swanson pointed out, the Air Force was flying the ‘CIA’ drones and they continue to fly them now. Trump is continuing the policy that was in place before there was a public outcry that caused Obama to take a step back. But it isn’t a new idea or practice and which brutal agency controls the drones is irrelevant to the victims.Read more
In the United States activists really need to focus on understanding and appreciating the depth of the connection between US foreign policy and domestic oppression. This is key to making any unified movement for change in this country, In the interview below, Chris Hedges and Rania Khalek address this issue around US support for Israel. They show how the militarized Israeli occupation of Palestine is interwoven with the US deep state war machine, often referred to as the Military Industrial Complex. After nearly 70 years, Israel remains at war with the indigenous population of the region within its borders as well as neighboring states. The Israeli occupation of Palestine has significant parallels with the European oppression and ultimate genocide of the native population of the Americas, and especially North America.Read more
The US has moved from supporting proxies to direct intervention in Syria. It is the second time in as many months that they have killed nearly 100 Syrians in an air raid. They have betrayed a long negotiated treaty and when confronted, US Ambassador Samantha Power dissembled and attacked the messenger. It is clear that the United States remains committed to overthrowing the internationally recognized government of Syria. Pentagon planners have shown no respect whatsoever for international law or for the United States diplomatic commitments in Syria. They hope to prevent any resolution before a new president is inaugurated.
US participation in the ceasefire was a sham and now the US continues to dissemble, buying time to reinforce their proxies and put more US soldiers on the ground. The Pentagon is sowing the seeds of open warfare against the legitimate government of Syria (and the threat of war with Russia) while exacerbating the horrific humanitarian crisis of the Syrian people.
The time to stop them is NOW!
Hands off Syria!

Recently the Pentagon admitted to killing two Syrian children in a drone attack last fall when they bombed a group of al Qaeda fighters in the suburbs of the Syrian city of Aleppo. . .
But, it isn’t a surprise that some children were killed in Syria in a drone strike. In fact, children are regularly killed in U.S. drone strikes in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Yemen and wherever. In 2013, due to a lot of negative attention brought by Internatonal Human Rights NGOs an the United Nations on drone killings in Pakistan and Yemen, President Obama produced a document that set standards limiting drone strikes where civilians might be present. Last year, after declaring war on ISIS in Syria and Iraq, he waived those limits. Soon thereafter, these children were killed by a U.S. drone strike in Syria. The picture is actually of some other children killed by drone strikes in Syria, Now, there is once again discussion of placing limits on drone strikes.Read more
